Isla Care was born from a simple but powerful idea — that disability support could and should be different.

Karl Kuczynski, our founder, saw too many people with disabilities being treated like numbers on a roster. He saw their needs overlooked, their personalities pushed aside, and their support reduced to ratios. Time and time again, he witnessed systems putting paperwork before people, and he knew something had to change.

So, Karl and his wife Grace set out to build something better. A place where support workers genuinely care. Where they take the time to understand the whole person. Their interests, quirks, goals, and needs, not just what's written in a plan. They believed there had to be others out there who also saw the injustice and wanted to make a real difference. And they were right. That belief is what sparked the beginning of Isla Care.

Since those early days, Isla Care has grown in ways we couldn’t have imagined. We’ve purchased our own Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Short-Term Accommodation (STA) property, and we’ve welcomed passionate, long-standing team members who believe in the same vision Karl and Grace started with: to support people with disabilities in a way that truly puts them first.

For over 17 years, we've been walking alongside individuals with disabilities, offering support that feels like home. Every person we support becomes part of our extended Isla family.

What truly sets Isla Care apart is our people. Many of our support workers and healthcare professionals have been with us for years, forming deep, trusting relationships with those they support. We believe that consistency and real connection matter — and we’re proud to bring that into every home, every day, with every person.

We're based on the Gold Coast and support individuals across the surrounding areas. Whether it’s daily living assistance, social support, short-term respite, or long-term care, we tailor our services to suit your unique needs and goals.

We provide a wide range of services on the Gold Coast, tailored to meet your needs.

  • We provide community engagement with a focus on keeping active and healthy. Accessing social and civic activities to bolster skills, confidence, improve mental health and encourage independence.

  • Whether it’s 1:1 support or matching you up with people with similar interests – we support you to achieve your goals and help you live a life you love.

  • We support you with a wide variety of daily personal tasks to help you live as independently as possible.

  • We provide tailored overnight respite care at our Gold Coast respite facility, to support every person’s individual needs and encourage independent living.

  • Enjoy life in one of our lovely SIL homes. A space to thrive, be yourself and have opportunities to learn, grow and develop life skills.

    We’ll work together to match you with housemates that best suit your lifestyle, abilities, personality and interests.   • Our STA service on the Gold Coast provides a home away from home. We offer respite accommodation that provides quality and reliable care, friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, and access to all the fun and attractions the Gold Coast offers.

  • Isla Care’s support team can help ease the stress when it comes to attending appointments, pickups and drop-off’s and any other transport needs.
